News21blog2008: Arizona Voter Registration Rules Target Illegal Immigrants, But Strike Elderly and Low Income

  • rewinn · 1 year ago
This is just part of the Republican voter suppression effort; an important part, to be sure.

Since no-one went to jail for the GOP's voter "caging" operations last time around, expect them to get active in EVERY state.

If millions of voters go to the polls only to discover their registrations were canceled, it won't matter that the Democrats have 60% support or whatever.

The ONLY answer is to catch those bastards in the act, and put them in jail to scare the rest!

Does anyone actually advocate allowing non-citizens to vote? The tone of the comment above makes me wonder... If non-citizens are voting, does justice not constrain us to prevent them?

I agree with Scott. The threat of noncitizens influencing our elections is worth the effort of prevention. Hard to believe that 97-year-old Shirley Preiss just got around to wanting to vote. This is not an example that alarms me. She can get the documents. Everyone can get the documents to prove citizenship. It is worth it to get illegals off the voting rolls.

If very elderly people can't get their birth certificate then I think we can all agree we'll make an exemption? All this nonsense about voters being disenfranchised if you require an ID is stupid. How hard is it to get your birth certificate and supply your SSN? If you currently don't have your birth certificate then the state should be mandated to get it for you. And if you're too stupid to know your SSN then maybe you shouldn't be voting.
